Youkilis, who had his major league record for errorless chances at first end at 238 games when he dropped a throw on June 7, left with a bruise and bump under the eye.
The timing of his departure wasn't very good for the Red Sox. Before the game, backup Sean Casey dropped the appeal of his three-game suspension for his part in a brawl against Tampa Bay on June 5.
Brandon Moss ended up replacing Youkilis in his major league debut at first base.
Youkilis hit a pair of homers in Sunday's 5-3 win over St. Louis, including a game-winning, two-run shot in the bottom of the 13th.
