BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Red Sox traded David Pauley to the Baltimore Orioles on Monday for Randor Bierd in a swap of right-handed pitchers.
Pauley was 0-1 with an 11.68 ERA in two starts and four relief appearances last season. The 25-year-old is 0-3 with a 9.53 ERA in nine career big league games and had been designated him for assignment last Tuesday.The 24-year-old Bierd, was 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA in 29 relief appearances for Baltimore last season. He didn't allow a run in his first 12 2-3 innings.
Bierd originally signed with Detroit as a free agent in 2003 and was selected by Baltimore in the 2007 winter meeting draft.
