FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - David Ortiz says he worked out with controversial trainer Angel Presinal in the Dominican Republic, but the Red Sox slugger never saw anyone use performance-enhancing drugs there. |
"All I know is that we all worked with him as a group of guys that wanted to be ready in spring training and that's about it," Ortiz said. "He's one of the guys that trained everybody."
Ortiz said the facility is not owned by Presinal and he's not worried his name will be linked with others accused of steroid use. He urged major leaguers to be cautious in their relationships.
"You are the owner of your own decisions," he said. "It's sad that's he's involved in things like this but you have to be careful."
Presinal has been barred from major league clubhouses. The Daily News in New York reported Friday that Presinal was the trainer who worked directly with Alex Rodriguez during the time the Yankees superstar admitted to using banned drugs.
Kansas City Royals star Jose Guillen acknowledged Saturday that worked with Presinal.
Guillen said he worked with Presinal "for a very long time" but that the regimen never included performance-enhancing drugs.
"I never saw an injection," Guillen said. "He never asked me about steroids or anything."
"But he is a great friend of mine," he said. "He's one of the nicest guys who I ever met or worked with."
