Boston Red Sox Notes, Quotes 2008-09-11
--RHP David Aardsma was activated from the 15-day disabled list before the game after pitching on a rehab assignment with short-season Lowell the previous evening. Aardsma, who had been on the DL with a strained right groin since Aug. 24, is 3-2 with a 4.19 ERA with four holds in 42 games for the Sox this season. Aardsma's activation gives the Sox 34 players on their active roster.

--3B Mike Lowell clubbed his 200th career home run in Tuesday night's loss and became the 286th player in big-league history to reach that plateau. It was Lowell's first home run at Fenway Park since going deep against the Cardinals on June 12. Lowell is hitting .368 (7-for-19) with two doubles, two home runs and 5 RBIs in five games since coming off the disabled list on Sept. 5.

--1B Kevin Youkilis hit a sacrifice fly in the 14th inning and in doing so collected his career-high 100th RBI of the season. His RBI total is just another example of the added production and power that the All-Star has mixed into his game this season.

--OF J.D. Drew wasn't available to pinch-hit after manager Terry Francona had indicated earlier in the day that Drew would be available. Francona said after the game that the right fielder had experienced a bit of a setback when his back stiffened up during the extra-inning game; his status is day-to-day. Drew is hitting .280 with 19 home runs and 64 RBI but hasn't played in a game since Aug. 17.

--DH David Ortiz laid down a sacrifice bunt in the 12th inning, only the second sacrifice hit of his career and his first since joining the Red Sox. Ortiz last got down a bunt against the Chicago White Sox on April 14, 2001, while he was still a member of the Minnesota Twins.

BY THE NUMBERS: 455 -- Consecutive home sellouts for the Red Sox as of the Sept. 3 game at Fenway Park. The sellout streak tied the major league record set by the Indians from 1995-2001.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We're in a good position. I feel like if I can just play good baseball these last few weeks, hopefully we're in the playoffs, we can get hot and see if we can do something special again." -- 3B Mike Lowell.
