Home is where the Red Sox need some wins.
After a rough West Coast trip through Anaheim and Oakland that saw the team drop four out of six games, lose right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka to the 15-day disabled list, and lose right-hander Josh Beckett to a future six-game suspension following his dust-up with the Angels' Bobby Abreu, the Sox could use a little home cooking along Yawkey Way. Heading back to Fenway has always been the salve that's healed the Red Sox though hard times, and that should be the case once again starting Friday against the Baltimore Orioles.
"Sleeping in your own bed and coming home to your family is what it's all about," first baseman Kevin Youkilis said. "We've always had a pretty distinct home-field advantage at Fenway Park, so we always look forward to going back there when we've been on the road."
For the Sox, it's been one of the biggest truths during their run since GM Theo Epstein took over the reigns in 2003. Boston has compiled a 264-141 record at the Fens over the last five years before this one. That's a .652 winning percentage, so it shouldn't take long for the team to start improving its 1-2 home record and begin the climb through the AL East standings.
